Slip Leads/Leashes

Slip Leads/Leashes

In veterinary medicine slip leads, or slip leashes, are a fast, safe and convenient way for doctors and technicians to transport dogs from one location to another. When used correctly, a slip leash does not cause damage to the animal and will allow the person leading the dog to maintain control so the dog doesn’t get away. Because most collars are not fitted properly and will slip over a dog’s head, a slip lead is important for the dog’s safety as well as the veterinary team. If a collar is placed too loosely on a dog, it may slip over the dog’s head allowing the dog to run away from staff, or even owners, if the dog is panicked or reluctant to be at the vet’s office. A slip leash prevents unwanted accidents that may occur in these situations.

We strive to make visits to our office as safe and comfortable as possible for you and your dog, and one way to accomplish this is by the use of slip leads. If necessary, a slip lead can be made into a makeshift harness for those dogs that have a tendency to fight the leash, or those that have breathing problems. It only takes a few seconds for a technician to fix a makeshift harness out of a slip lead, which will provide adequate comfort and control to prevent harm.

Each year there are thousands of accidents which occur from dogs slipping their collar and ending up in situations that are unsafe in one way or another. Our goal is to prevent these accidents to the best of our ability during your dog’s visit with us. A slip lead is one of the many tools that we utilize to try to make sure your four legged loved one stays safe while in our care.
